Best Single Leg Defense for BJJ and MMA to Beat Better Wrestlers

Here’s one of my favorite counters to a single leg—taking the back via far side head and arm. ⁣

This defense can be used in wrestling, mma, and bjj—though one of my guys executed this perfectly in an IBJJF tournament years ago, and the ref gave the other guy points for a takedown, which was lame. That said, this is an excellent way to take the back against a good wrestler, especially if you want to counter with offensive grappling. ⁣

The key to this move is to 1. get the head outside of the hip as soon as possible and 2. keeping the shoulder tight to the back of your opponent’s head. ⁣

Next up, I’ll show another counter to a single leg where we end up on the back or with top position.
