Mitt work with Alan Viers

Good mitt work is like dancing with a good partner—it takes both of you to work correctly, or it’s ugly. Although Im stiff (Im old!) @aviersbkb is doing a good job moving, which forces me to move in and out on my own. After I throw a punch/combo, he flicks his hand at me, which forces me to adjust my range (either in or out).

On my end, I try to keep my head off line before/after my punches and Im constantly adjusting where I want to be—Im not waiting to be told what to do or where to move. Last, Im moving around him and choosing my angles and what I want to do after I throw, as I want to be the one in control. I dont want to wait to be told what to do—I def cant do that in a fight. My punches are all after the fact. My balance, movement, footwork, hands up, range/distance, and my eyes are all more important. Alan is our head boxing coach at @fightready and is always keeping our guys ready. Next week, I’ll do some work with our kick boxing coach @eddie_cha and break some things down.
